The Phoenix House, Inc. of Tuscaloosa is a freestanding, non-profit transitional housing facility that began operation in the late 1960's as a half-way house for alcoholic men and evolved to its current mission and structure in 1994. The primary mission is to assist individuals in their recovery from alcohol and drug addiction and help them return to society as productive members. Success is achieved through individual, group and family counseling, vocational and adult education, life skills training and job training/placements.

Wednesday & Saturday construction days will have two shifts: 

8 - 12 p.m. or 12 - 4 p.m.

(must be 16 or older)

Cultivate women's ministry serve day

Schedule of activities:

8:30 a.m. | Gather at FUMCT & load buses

9 - 11 a.m. | Cultivate Serve Day (choose from 2 mission projects)

11 a.m. | Return to FUMCT

11:30 - 12:15 p.m. | Lunch

12:15 - 1:30 p.m. | Worship/speakers/door prizes

1:30 p.m. | Dismissal

Serve Day projects:

Love INC. | Pack winter clothes to store for Homeless Connect, hang and organize spring clothes, sort linens, and wash glassware, etc. Some jobs can be done while seated.

West AL Food Bank | Pack backpacks for school children so they will have nutritious meals throughout the weekeend and stock the pantry.

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month nation-wide. Turning Point is hosting a special event in order to bring awareness to our community about sexual assault. Join us for a free community awareness event with snacks, entertainment, special speakers and a glow walk in the park at dark.

Thursday, April 5th | 7 - 8 p.m. at the Snow Hinton Park on the corner of McFarland and Hargrove Road

Donations of gently used items are received to supply the Gap Ministries, The Outback and the Resale Boutique. Donations are received at 3101 Main Avenue Northport, AL Monday - Friday 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. & Saturday 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Current Volunteer Positions Needed January 2018

Male Drivers- to transport Neighbors in Need to and from medical appointments

Furniture Pick-up/Delivery Workers- pick-ups are usually scheduled 3 to 4 days in advance

Drivers- to pull open trailer for furniture pick-ups (trailer provided by Love INC.)

Mentors- to meet with Neighbors in Need on Thursday nights

Teachers- to teach Bible study or life skills on Thursday nights

Donation Sorters- to sort, prepare and move items to Love's Resale Boutique or Outback Work area. Donation center hours: Monday-Friday 8:30 - 4 p.m. and Saturday 9-1 p.m. Sorters often work one shift a week, but other hours can be scheduled

Neighbor in Need Voucher Assistant- to work one morning or one afternoon per week finding specific clothes and household items for clients

Retail Sales Clerks- to assist shoppers, price items and arrange displays in Love's Resale Boutique. We have openings on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays

Clearinghouse Intake Workers- to conduct phone interviews with potential Neighbors in Need

Distribution Assistant- work from home researching the best places to give, sell or recycle unneeded, unusual or valuable donations

Repairmen/Crafters- repair, refinish or reupholster donated furniture; repaint, refresh or re-purpose home decor items; use donated fabric, yarn and art supplies for a ministry

Support Team Members- pray with Neighbors in Need, pray for staff/volunteers and send notes of encouragement

TES offers a vast array of client services, including food assistance, clothing and help with utilities, so volunteers are always in demand. Our volunteers can work during office hours 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday or at the TES Thrift Store 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday - Friday & Saturdays 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. There are many different functions available for volunteers at our agency:

helping out in our always busy Thrift Store, filling food bags for our clients, sorting donations and many more!

Join us in reaching Tuscaloosa teenagers for Christ | Every day of the week YFC staff and volunteers build Christ-sharing relationships with high school and middle school students in Tuscaloosa. Through the programs of Campus Life and Parent Life (teen moms) we currently serve over 2,000 youth.
