Yvonne was born in Tuscaloosa and raised in Tuscaloosa and Newark, NJ. She has lived in Cheyenne, WY, Great Britain, and Louisiana in the course of her 30+ years working for the federal government. When she retired and moved back to Tuscaloosa in 2013, she rented a house on Juanita Drive, and is so excited her new Habitat house will also be on Juanita Drive. Her sister, Odessa, lives on Juanita Drive next door to the Habitat home the United Methodist Churches built in 2016. Yvonne loves to sew and do crafts, and works part-time at Joanne Fabrics. Bethel Baptist is her church home. She has three grown children and four granddaughters.

First Church believes in the "priesthood of all believers." When we join the United Methodist Church, we promise to support the church with our prayers, our presence, our gifts, our service, and our witness.

We put these promises into action both inside and outside the doors of our church:

We care for each other in times of personal and family trial;

We work together to raise our children and youth as disciples of Jesus;

We serve food to the hungry at the Community Soup Bowl;

We help build houses and develop Christian communities around Tuscaloosa County;

We tutor at Central and Martin Luther King Elementary Schools;

We assist “neighbors in need” with a multitude of poverty related issues;

Bless Your Neighbor provides supplies for teachers in our local schools;

We help feed, clothe, and educate children locally, nationally, and globally;

We take medical/dental/optometry care to those that would otherwise go unseen both locally & internationally;

We help build new church congregations locally, nationally, and internationally;

We are the representatives of Jesus to a broken and downtrodden world;

We strive to be the “hands and feet” of the body of Christ.

The Global Outreach (GO) Ministries of First United Methodist Church Tuscaloosa are Biblically based in Acts 1:8. We believe we are commissioned to be the “hands and feet” of Jesus to a hurting and sometimes hopeless world.

We have three different areas that we participate in ministry to others:

1) Local GO Team

2) National GO Team

3) International GO Team

These are teams that meet twice a year to determine future missions projects, disperse funds to various ministries and missionaries, and help develop the overall direction of Global Outreach for FUMCT. To become more involved in any of these teams, please contact Director of Global Outreach, Joshua Davis at 205.345.7261, ext. 102.
